Grants for Minority

Grants for minority is offered for education, businesses, different fields of work and research by the Federal Government, minority organizations and individuals, for the respective minority. Minorities are at an advantage with regard to Grants.

Grants for minority groups, who is eligible?

Grants for minority is offered for education, businesses, different fields of work and research by  the Federal Government as well as the  minority organizations , assocations and individuals, for the respective minority.

According to 2005 census, 39.9 million comprising 13.8% of the total population were African Americans who were considered the largest minority in the U.S.A. Among the grants for minority groups, the African Americans have specific grants for different purposes and the main eligibility criteria is to belong to this minority. Until the last decade, the African Americans were considered the most disadvantaged minority group but due to the backing of the federal government, the states and the private sector, African American students are definitely much more advantageous than they were a decade ago. This has seen a significant increase in college enrollment in the number of African American students.  Grants are not restricted to education and has extended to businesses and also to enhance the socio economic conditions of the African American minority. These same grants are multiplied for women, single mothers, battered women all representing the African American community and will not be awarded to any other minority.

The Hispanics are another large minority in the U.S.A. with 15% of the entire population of the nation being Hispanics. However they are under represented in colleges and universities. Federal government, respective states with high population of Hispanics such as California and Texas, large corporations, Hispanic associations and many others have joined together to award grants and scholarships to this minority to encourage them to pursue higher education with  eligibility of these grants to be restricted to only Hispanics. It is the same for other grants that are awarded through different agencies for business, women, single mothers, battered women who should all be of Hispanic origin.

There are many educational grants available for Native American minority who represent 1% of the population of the nation comprising 4.5 million people. Grants  are awarded by way of scholarships to encourage Native Americans to acquire higher education. The Native American Business Alliance and the National Indian Business Association are among the sources to provide business grants for Native Indians and eligibility criteria is proof of ethnicity.

The Asian American minority who represents 5% of  the nations population are awarded grants for education and businesses through the federal government and Asian organizations including the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce as well the Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund are good examples of Asian funding organizations who awards educational grants only to the Asian American population. The Asian American Business Development is one of the organizations that help Asian American businesses to grow.

Similarly the Jewish Americans are well funded by their own organizations for education and business enterprises and eligibility being limited to Americans with Jewish heritage.

All the minorities are eligible to apply for grants through the federal government for education as well as to set up a business or to expand the business if  the business falls within the approved category. The grants are not generalized for all minorities and will differ from one minority to another. 

Minority groups have definite advantages with more grants for minority being available for them from the Federal government as well as from their own community based organizations and associations which has given every minority more opportunities to achieve their educational and entrepreneurial successes.
