Examples of government grants for minorities

There are more government grants for minorities than for the majority of citizens in the U.S.A. simply because minorities, apart from the grants available to them by the Federal government and the State, are also eligible for normal grants awarded by the Federal government.

There is quite a lot of free money in the form of grants available for minorities such as African Americans, Native Americans and Hispanics who are the predominant minorities in the nation.

Grants for minorities are awarded for several reasons. Education is at the top of the list as the nation’s commitment to No Child Left Behind Act has provided funding for every eligible child to pursue his/her higher education aspirations. For minorities this is compounded because not only are they eligible to apply for the normal grants through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid commonly known as the FAFSA process but also this process narrows down to minority specific grants for education over and above the normal grants. Since this is a grant and not a loan, there is no pay back required.

Government grants are also available for housing for eligible low income citizens of minority communities to purchase houses at subsidized prices. This is vital especially for those minorities who live in a high risk area and expose their children to alcohol, drugs and crime.

Minorities also receive grants to start small businesses that fall within the approved business of the state organization that would be funding the businesses.

Government grants are also available for minorities who become bankrupt to bail them out of their financial situation. This helps them to restart their life.

To help minority’s single parents to go to college or to work, the government provides grants for day care costs.

Another grant awarded by the government is the grant where children of financially disadvantaged families whose children excel academically, are not confined to sending them to the nearest school, but are awarded free money in the form of vouchers which are redeemable at a private or public school of their choice allowing such children the option of attending top end schools where they are able to perform better.

There are many grants available for minorities awarded by the Federal government and the state to help them make life changing situations, and it is up to each individual to make good use of the available resources and be able to become financially and economically independent.
