Federal minority grants - Basic requirements for application |
|
Federal minority grants are awarded to all the minorities in the country who mostly consist of the African-Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans and Asian Americans.
Federal minority grants are not granted as minority grants but will be specific to the minority concerned and each grant will differ from the other. Some minority grants which are specific to the minority may be generalized for the whole nation as well as have specific geographic locations as a pre-condition for the grant.
The most basic requirement under a minority grant is firstly proof of American citizenship as that is a requirement for Federal grants and since it is specific for a minority, then you need to provide proof thereof. For an African American it may be sufficient to provide the birth certificate which indicates your heritage and ancestry but for a Native American, you have to be a registered citizen of a federally recognized tribe and provide proof thereof to be eligible for the grant.
If the Federal minority college grant is awarded on a need base then you will be required to provide proof that you are financially disadvantaged and the government will request the following documentation to determine how disadvantaged you are financially and whether or not you are worthy of a Federal grant.
The current W-2 forms and other records of money earned
Your and yours spouse’s, (if you are married) 2008 Federal Income Tax Return.
IRS 1040, 1040A, 1040 EZ
Foreign Tax Return
Veterans benefits records
Child support received
Workman’s compensation
Your current bank statements
Your current business and investment mortgage information if any, business and farm records, stock, bond and other investment records
A compelling essay will also need to be attached with these documents. The essay should be able to sell your story based on your ethnicity and why you should be deserving of the grant.
If the Federal minority grant is geographically specific, then you will need to provide proof of your state residency.
When sending out an application a basic requirement is to ensure that all the required documents are attached. If you do not include even one requested document, your application will be rejected.
Some are of the view that more information you send the better your chances are of receiving a grant. On the contrary, if you send more information than what is asked for, the chances are that your application might be rejected as grant viewers do not have the time to go through unwanted information. Therefore, just stick to the basic requirements of the application, and do not go beyond what is asked for. |
