Dr. Stuart Ross is a dentist, and has answered some common questions that Bizymoms visitors have about Porcelain Veneers.
Q. What are Porcelain Veneers?
A. Veneers are thin facings of ceramic or porcelain cemented on a prepared tooth. These enhancements provide both cosmetic and functional value to the smile. Not only are the teeth more attractive, but they are also stronger and protected from the forces of a destructive ’bite.’ In our office this can be accomplished in ONE VISIT!
Q. How long do dental veneers last?
A. Veneers typically last 15 to 20 years. Our office guarantees our work for 5 years. If something happens – we correct the problem.
Q. Do dental veneers require special care?
A. Not usually. The new bite or feel may take a day or two to get used to – but special care is not typically necessary.
Q. Are there alternatives to dental veneers?
A. Cosmetic resin bondings can change the shape and color of teeth but will not protect them from the grinding/wear process. They are also bulky or ’fatter’ feeling. Full coverage crowns are also an alternative and WILL protect the teeth but require much more natural tooth reduction.
Q. Do veneers look natural?
A. We can make the veneers look any way the patient wants them to look. The patient is involved in the complete process from choosing color and shape to the finished look. We want every patient to walk out our door with the smile of their dreams in place.
Q. Does the veneer protect one’s tooth from decay?
A. Yes. Veneers are designed to protect the teeth in general. However, the decay factor is dependent on how the patient takes care of his or her teeth in general. Brushing and flossing are as essential to caring for veneers as they are to the rest of a person’s teeth.
Q. How much does a veneer cost?
A. In our office a veneer is just under $2200 per tooth.
