| About Washington State |
Which Washington city do you belong to? |
| Washington is a state located in the Pacific Northwest region. It was carved out from the western portion of the Washington Territory and was later admitted to the Union as the forty-second state. Also known as the "Evergreen State," the state was named after the First President, George Washington and happens to be the only state which takes its name from a president. The state is also often called State of Washington or Washington State in order to differentiate it from the District of Columbia. The state also houses the Seattle metropolitan area which happens to be a business and industrial hub and home to internationally-renowned arts community. The rest of the state consists of semi-deserts, deep rain forests and mountain ranges. Significant industries include the manufacturing and designing of Boeing jet aircrafts, computer software development (Amazon.com, Microsoft, Nintendo of America, Valve Corporation), biotechnology, mining and plenty more. The 4 Washington based companies of Starbucks, Costco, Microsoft and Nordstrom made it into the top 20 Most Admired Companies in the US survey of Fortune magazine. There is no personal income tax, franchise tax or corporate income tax here! |

"Washington, My Home"
Written by Helen Davis, arranged by Stuart Churchill
This is my country; God gave it to me; I will protect it, ever keep it free. Small towns and cities rest here in the sun, Filled with our laughter, "Thy will be done."
Washington my home; Where ever I may roam; This is my land, my native land, Washington, my home. Our verdant forest green, Caressed by silvery stream; From mountain peak to fields of wheat. Washington, my home.
There's peace you feel and understand In this, our own beloved land. We greet the day with head held high, And forward ever is our cry. We'll happy ever be As people always free. For you and me a destiny; Washington my home. |
