Q.    What is Breast Lifting?

A.    A breast lift (or mastopexy) is a procedure to elevate breasts that are sagging  (are ptotic).  This "sagging" can be the result of pregnancy, aging or genetics.  A breast lift is performed with or without breast implants as an outpatient procedure.  Breast implants are used when in addition to uplift, an increase in volume is needed or requested.

Q.    How is breast lift surgery done?

A.    When a breast lift is performed,  pre-operative markings are made to excise skin, raise the breasts, increase their projection, and create a more pleasing contour.  A decision to enlarge the breasts at this time is made between the patient and her physician.

Q.    What is the recovery period like?

A.    The surgery takes about three hours to perform.  Most of the sutures (stitches) are under the skin.  The patient can usually return to most activity in three weeks.

Q.    Who is an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery?

A.    Any patient who is generally healthy who has sagging breasts can benefit from a breast lift with or without implants.

Q.    Are there risks and complications to a breast lift surgery?

A.    The main risks of a breast lift including scarring, infection (rare) and bleeding (non life threatening).

Q.    How long do the results last?

A.    The longevity of a breast lift procedure varies depending on the patient’s genetics, aging, and life style.
Using implants helps maintain the results longer.

Q.    How much does breast lift surgery cost?

A.    The cost for a breast lift varies from $7,800 to $10,800.  The cost depends on if and what type of implants are used, and what type of anesthesia is necessary.
