An Interview with Dr. James R. Mattingly on Porcelain Veneers
Dr. James R. Mattingly is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Porcelain Veneers.
Q. What are porcelain veneers?
A. A Porcelain Veneer is a thin laminate of porcelain which requires minimal tooth reduction and which gets permanently cemented to the tooth. Very beautiful results, but is case by case specific. Not everyone is a good candidate for a porcelain veneer.
Q. How long to dental veneers last?
A. If the patient is a good candidate and follows the instructions given by the dentist, a porcelain veneer should last 10-25 years.
Q. Do dental veneers require special care?
A. Yes. Patient must avoid biting into anything really hard with the front teeth once veneers are placed. A hard carrot or peanut brittle should not be used with porcelain veneers or risk of popping off or fracturing. Also, it is often recommended that the patient have a Night guard fabricated to protect the veneers from possible tooth grinding or clenching at night.
Q. Are there alternatives to dental veneers?
A. Yes. A Porcelain Crown will provide similarly beautiful results but will be stronger and more durable.
Q. Do Veneers look natural?
A. Yes. Extremely natural. We can control the color, shape, size, and contours.
Q. Does the veneer protect one’s tooth from decay?
A. No. The patient is still susceptible to getting decay and must be diligent with proper oral hygiene habits.
Q. What does a veneer cost?
A. From $1,000 - $1,300 per tooth.
Q. How to contact Dr. Mattingly if we have further questions?
A.
