An Interview with Dr. Feras Al Rezk on Dental Implants
Dr. Feras Al Rezk is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Dental Implants.
Q. What are dental implants?
A. Dental implant is great and predictable treatment to replace missing teeth without the need for preparing the adjacent ones. The dentist place a tooth like crown on top of the dental implant body with root like shape supported by patient’s own bone.
Q. What are the benefits of dental implants?
A. The implant is the most predictable procedure in dentistry today and placing implant preserve the bone and prevent the loss of bone in the extracted tooth site.
Q. What are implants made of?
A. Dental implant is made from titanium, and there are some zirconium implants currently under research, not yet available in USA.
Q. Who is a candidate for implants?
A. Any person with good health and complete jaw growth would be candidate for implant dentistry.
Q. How are dental implants placed?
A. Dental implants are placed under local anesthetic, and sedation if patient chooses. The body of the implant is placed in the jaw after the site is prepared to receive it. X ray, bone grafting, sinus lift and Ct scan sometimes are indicated. Depending on the quality of the bone and your dentist’s evaluation it take three to six months for the implant integration with the surrounding bone. However, with the new generation of implant, surface treatment is so predictable and there is a possibility of immediate loading. In a case by case situation you can have restoration done from the day of the surgery. I would not recommend immediate loading only when high quality of bone and stabilization existed and if you are willing to take some risk .
At the end of the conversation between you and your dentist it is very important to make sure you choose a dentist who will take the time to listen to your concern.
Q. How to contact Dr. Rezk if we have further questions?
