An Interview with Dr. Nasim Y. Anderson on Dental Implants
Dr. Nasim Y. Anderson is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Dental Implants.
Q. What are dental implants? And how are dental implants placed?
A. Dental implant is a small titanium screw that is placed in the jaw bone to replace a missing tooth root.
Q. What are the benefits of dental implants?
A. Dental implants are used to support crowns, bridges or dentures. There are many advantages of getting implants over traditional methods of replacing teeth. When a dental implant is used to replace a single tooth, it would provide a more conservative treatment since the adjacent teeth are not prepared or reduced as in a traditional bridge preparation. Implant supported crown is also more esthetically pleasing and more natural looking over a traditional bridge. When implants are used to support partial dentures or full dentures, they provide better retention and hence improved fit.
Q. How long does an implant last?
A. Dental implants last for many years provided they are maintained well by good oral hygiene practices and regular dental checkups by your dentist.
Q. What are implants made of?
A. Titanium is a metal that is biocompatible and allows bone to grow around it.
Q. Who is a candidate for implants?
A. A good candidate for implants is in good general and oral health with healthy gums. In addition, there should be enough bone in the area to support the implant.
