Tips on Camping

From anyone’s young days camping has been a very exciting and enjoyable experience in every way. And family camping is a further enjoyable and fun experience for the parents and the children. But this camping experience can be a stressful experience. In order to make the parents less stressful in their camping vacation the following tips and advice has several topics addressed.

Food and Cooking

Food is always an important motivator in a camping trip with the family. So getting this right and easy will define how your camping adventure will last, whether good or bad. For food, it will be easier and great if you take with you purchased pre-packaged pancake mixes to be served at breakfast. Using these, you will only have to pour and fix. Furthermore, freeze bacon and bring it along with your food package. Preparing will be easier since you can fry it frozen and it will be fine.

In addition, crack a dozen or so eggs into a plastic bottle shaped container and put it in the cooler. By the time you get to your destination, the eggs will be shaken enough for scrambled eggs! Just pour them into your frying pan in the morning. You won't have to worry about them breaking and you probably pay less at your local supermarket than the small store in town.

Rubber Bands

Take along a handful of super strong rubber bands. If you have a water spigot at your site you can use the rubber bands to attach a pump soap bottle to the spigot post. Then it keeps the soap off the ground and easy to access for hand or dish washing. Rubber bands always come in handy: pull up your hair, keep utensils together, and so on. These are small yet handy items for a camping trip.

Save Money in Ice

You might think buying ice would be the easier choice, but you can save money by not buying and making them prior to the trip with proper planning. Specifically, for block ice, you can use an ice cream bucket and with the lid on it won't leak as it melts and spoil anything in the cooler. In the same manner, ice cubes can be made well in advance of the trip and it can be saved in an old ice cream tub in the freezer and it will ensure freshness as well.

Sleeping Bad Zippers

Small things like sleeping bag zippers getting stuck can be fixed really easily with WD-40 lubricant. But many parents forget to take this with them, in such an occasion, a lead pencil will get the job done.

Waterproofing Matches

If you have access to buying “strike anywhere” Ohio Blue Tip matches, it will be wise to get some of them, and dip all the tips in the wax, so that it will provide a great coating of waterproofing. This way the tips will stay dry and as a result, lighting will be a problem of the past.

Ziplock Bags

It will be great for you, if you can get those big, 2 gallon Ziplock freezer bags from the Dollar Store since they are good for packing clothes. You can use one for each person, and then pack them in a suitcase or whatever you put the other clothes in. This will make clothes be dry in case of any rain or dew. In addition, they help to keep things organized, especially, if your children are boys.
