Q. What is Otoplasty?
A. An operation to correct prominent ears.
Q. Will my surgery be performed in a hospital?
A. I perform major surgeries in a hospital setting or at an accrediated outpatient surgery center.
Q. Is there a risk of hearing loss after otoplasty?
A. No
Q. At what age can a child undergo otoplasty?
A. I usually wait until the child is 5 years old prior to performing an otoplasty. At that age, 80% of the growth of the ears is complete and we can expect a long term stable result with otoplasty.
Q. What is the average cost of otoplasty?
A. Avg. surgical cost of otoplasty is around $2500 for the surgical fee. There is an additional charge for the outpatient facility and for anesthesia. Occassionally, insurance will cover otoplasties.
Q. How long is the recovery period after otoplasty?
A. Most children are back to school and normal activities in a week. There is very little pain with this procedure. In order for the ears to heal totally, it takes about 6 weeks.
Q. Will there be scarring after ear surgery?
A. Scarring is located in the crease behind the ear and is very inconspicious.
