Dr. Scott Connell is a Dentist who has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Porcelain Veneers.
Q. What are porcelain veneers?
A. Porcelain veneers are thin segments of porcelain that wrap around and bond to your existing tooth. Veneers allow us to change the shape, size, color and strength of your teeth.
Q. How long to dental veneers last?
A. Dental veneer longevity depends on several factors but you should expect a veneer to last up to 10 years typically. I know patients that have had the same veneers for over 20 years. Some factors that can shorten the time frame are excessive wear (grinding, clenching), the size and shape of porcelain and your eating habits. Veneers really don’t like forks or ice!!
Q. Do dental veneers require special care?
A. You can often just place a small white filling in the right area to make a big difference on the appearance and function of your smile.
Q. Are there alternatives to dental veneers?
A. There are alternatives to veneers. Of course each case is specific, but you can often have successful outcomes with bleaching, orthodontic movement or even full coverage all porcelain crowns.
Q. Do Veneers look natural?
A. Veneers can look completely natural or very unnatural depending on the shade and shape used.
Q. Does the veneer protect one’s tooth from decay?
A. Veneers can be protective to an extent, yes, but are typically more cosmetic.
Q. How much does veneer cost?
A. Veneers can range in price depending on the materials used and type. A typical range would be betwen $800 and $1200.
