| Boarding for teens |
Teenagers are a ‘lot' that seeks independence. They prefer to be away from their parents and siblings' but spend time with peers. Unlike those in their middle childhood' teens prefer to show that they are more adult than children. They value their own decisions' even though they are often not correct. Thus' very often' teens prefer to stay at boarding schools than homes.
When considering on a boarding school' the teens are the senior students in schools. After their teenage years' they leave school for universities. Therefore' the place of boarding for teens should be different from boarding for those of younger ages. This should not be a congested place. The developing child in the teenager needs more space to spend time and feel content. The overcrowded domes would hinder the child's ability for new creation and abstract thinking. There should be areas such as lobby and recreation rooms' which should be more spacious than such areas assigned for the other age groups.
The teenage children are attracted to their opposite sex' due to the various hormonal reactions and developmental changes in their physiology. Girls develop faster than boys in this aspect. However' both sexes start feeling attractions towards their opposite sexes. The strict limitations of inter connection with the opposite sex would cause unnatural behavior patterns. To avoid such circumstances' the wardens and matrons must be wise enough to pave appropriate freedom to interact with the opposite sexes. The rules should not be too strict or too lenient.
Too lenient rules make them live a carefree life' which would cause problems for their main motif-studies- in the school. It may lead to unwanted pregnancies' liquor' drugs and wanton living. This would lead them to become deviant groups and disturb even daily scholars. Thus' the administrators of the boarding schools for teens must understand the mentality of the age and be moderate managers.
The food would be another problem for them. Junk food is discouraged in the boarding schools. The boarders incline towards junk food due to lack of sufficient food to satisfy their needs. Most of the teenage children eat more than the other ages' because their development is accelerated during this time. The food supplement should not be cut down for any punishment or impose hard and fast rules for their eating habits. This would make them unhappy and frustrated in their classroom work. The boarding schools for teens should neither be prisons nor lofty castles.
Opportunities such as debates' exhibitions' organizing occasions and field trips could be arranged with the amalgamation of the opposite sex boarding schools. It should not be to find out faults of the children' but to provide time and opportunity to adjust their behavior in front of others. The controlling of emotions' behavior and extending support would be the untold lessons they would learn through such occasions.
Summery: This article describes the various aspects that should be in place at a boarding school for teenagers' and that they should not have too hard fast rules' but shouldn't be too lenient on the students either' as the teenage years are a difficult time of growing up that needs a lot of help' support and guidance.
