Paying for the music you download
This is a really controversial topic' one which people are debating all around the world. Let me give you the lowdown on this issue.
Basically' there are the do-no-wrong folks (like myself!) who satisfy all their music needs by going over to the nearest music store and purchasing the CD or purchasing the album online' thereby paying the artists for the service he / she has provided. This is the scenario that the honchos in the music industry want as they'll be compensated for the money they invest.
However' there are those lazy people (many I know fall into this category) who feel that it's not really worth paying for the songs that they listen to when they can download these songs at absolutely no cost off the net. This can be done via websites dedicated to uploading these songs' and through P2P networks (connecting to someone else's computer and downloading it from their computer). There's obviously an ethical and legal issue arising here as you are not paying for the music you listen to' thereby violating the copyrights of the singer and the record label company.
Companies have been offering various solutions to tackle this problem. The solution which has had the most visible benefits has been through the advent of the iPod. As the iPod came' the makers of the iPod' Apple Computers' designed the iPod in such a way that you'll only be able to play the songs that you purchase from iTunes (the online music store that is managed by Apple Computers). Therefore' you had to purchase songs from iTunes if you wanted to use your iPod. The best part about iTunes is that it's much cheaper than buying from CDs' with songs available for as low as 99 cents and whole album available at a bargain price of $9.99.
However' some record label companies take the more extreme route and sue people who download songs illegally onto their computer. One such company actually sued an unsuspecting 12 year old girl just because she downloaded a song (illegally) which the record label company owned. The poor girl had no idea that it was actually illegal. This just goes to show how far music moguls are ready to go to protect their interests. You wouldn't want to end up like that ignorant child would you?
In conclusion' what I'd like to say is' don't download songs illegally! It just isn't fair to the artists' who spend so much time composing the song and singing it. Paying for the music they make is an acknowledgment of their talent. So' show some respect to the artists and get your music the right way. Article Summary- This article encourages all music listeners to do the right thing by paying for the music they listen to. As a warning' it cites an example of how some ignorant listeners have been taken to task by music production companies.
