Learn how to download music from the internet. There are many sites that offer music both free of charge and on a paid basis. There has been a lot of controversy about downloading from the internet and how it affects the original author and distributors mainly due to profits.

Well' there are a couple of ways to download music from the net. Let's have a look at them:

1. File Sharing is a popular way of downloading music' whereby you get the music for free by downloading the songs from someone else's computer or through a 3rd party file – ‘hoster'. However' trading in this way is actually illegal because these songs are generally ripped from original CDs and then uploaded onto the internet without the permission of the artist or the record label. The artist is not paid for the music downloads that you make. You should also be aware that' in the guise of songs' some people upload viruses or spyware which could damage your computer. In a nutshell' download at your own risk!

2. An online music store is the more popular way of downloading legal music. These online stores' which are actually websites' enable you to download songs legally after you pay for them (generally using a credit card). You can either download a single song or the whole album. The whole process of downloading is quite simple. You just search and locate the song(s) you want to download' and click the ‘buy it' button. You'll be prompted to enter your credit card details' and the appropriate amount will be deducted' enabling you to download the song. Popular examples include iTunes and Wal-Mart Music Downloads.

3. Another source of downloadable songs is a music subscription service. These are pretty much similar to online music stores' except that you get to download an unlimited number of songs for a monthly subscription. You can listen to these songs for as long as you maintain your subscription' but once you stop it' you won't be able to use the songs you rented. This source' too' is perfectly legal. The popular music subscription services include eMusic' Napster' Rhapsody and AOL Music.

4. Free Music Sites are sites which basically offer you the chance to download songs absolutely legally and for free. The songs are generally in the MP3 format' which is compatible with every single music player in the world. However' these sites don't have a wide variety of songs' and don't have the really popular ones. They generally have songs made by new or independent artists. However' free is free' and it's a really great way to listen to new music.

AOL Music has another approach to free music' whereby you can listen to any song (streaming)' but can't download them. It's a really great way to listen to the best songs out there for absolutely no charge!
