About Sports in Campus

Campus sports are a large part of college life. Some students enter college on sports scholarships. College life is about making new friends and having a good time when studying is taken care of.

Sports in campus
In the US college sports are very popular. An average campus will have at least 20 different sports programs and offer a number of intramural sports as well. So' college sport programs in the US are two tiered. The first tier comprises of sports that are sanctioned by collegiate sport governing bodies and the second tier includes all intramural and recreational sports clubs.

Participation for sports in the first tire is very selective. Only the elite athletes in their respective sport are able to compete. These athletes can compete in inter collegiate athletic competitions. Many colleges offer full sports scholarships to promising high school athletes. These athletes also benefit from perks that an average student does not receive; for example' they get the best dorm rooms on campus and first choice of any class they want. Sanctioning organizations include the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)' the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Intramural and recreational sports clubs are available to the student population at large. These sport teams aren't eligible for sports scholarships and they aren't very competitive. Many college students join an intramural sports team as part of their extra curricular activities. Most campuses encourage their students to join a sports team and listed below are some reasons why.

• In campus' sport is one of the few activities you will do just for the fun of it. It also gives students the opportunity to break the monotony of completing assignments and meeting deadlines.

• Intramural sports are not competitive; therefore it can provide great exercise with no stress. Also students are more likely to attend sports practices more regularly than using the gym. In college regular exercise is very important to stay healthy and overcome the freshman fatigue.

• Sport is a great stress reliever. Everyone knows that college life is far from easy going. Students are constantly scrambling to meet deadlines and cramming to complete studies for exams. Nothing works better than a good boisterous game with a couple of buddies to even out those stress levels. It can even boost your confidence.

• Joining a sports team is also a great way to meet new friends and expand your social circle. This provides you with the opportunity to meet people from other courses and dorms whom you may not run into otherwise. You also learn teamwork and sharing.
