1. What is breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation is enlarging the breast by placing an implant either above or below the muscle. This improves the size and shape of the breast.
2. How is a breast augmentation surgery performed?
Breast augmentation is performed in an accredited surgery center. A small (less than 2 inches) incision is made, a pocket is created for the implant, and the implant is carefully placed in the pocket. Dissolveable stitches are used to close the incision.
3. Who is a good candidate for breast augmentation?
Safety is our first concern. Only those patients who have few, if any major medical issues would be a good candidate.
4. What type of anesthetic is used for breast augmentation surgery?
Typically general anesthesia, but twilight (sedation) anesthesia is commonly used as well.
5. What are the risks associated with breast augmentation?
Firmness of the implants (capsular contracture), assymetry, loss of nipple sensation, dissatisfaction with size, infection and bleeding are the most common.
6. What is the recovery time for breast augmentation?
Typically, patients can return to work or social functions in a day or so. Full unrestricted exercise is allowed after two weeks.
7. How much does breast augmentation cost?
In my region, breast augmentation typically costs between $ 5500 and 6500.
