About types of movies
There are different types of movies and they are categorized into sections which include Comedy, Drama, Musical, and Documentary. People's tastes differ and they can choose a different movie for different reasons. Some people like to see a funny movie while others prefer one that will make them think and question society. |

Types of Movies |
1. Action
Movies that fall under this genre tend to place a higher emphasis on fights, shootouts, stunts, car chases, explosions, escapes and spectacular rhythm and pacing, which are there mainly for audience escapism. Action movies also tend to have a greater focus on the deeds of the hero, e.g. The Dark Knight.
2. Adventure
The 'adventure' genre are, like action movies, fast - paced, and set in exotic locations. There tends to be a lot of action too, though this is not the focus of the movie, unlike in action movies. Instead, there will be a predominant focus on how the hero(ine) survives through traveling in rugged terrain, conquering territory, creating empires. The hero tends to be of a courageous, patriotic type, and will often fight for what he believes in, e.g. Indiana Jones
3. Comedy
There isn't much that needs to be said about this genre. Comedy movies are meant to make the audience laugh and often have a happy ending, though there are a few exceptions to the rule, e.g. You Don't Mess With the Zohan
4. Crime/Gangster
These movies are based on the travails of serial bank robbers, murderers, underworld people who continuously break the law. Such movies can also fall under the category of thrillers, e.g. Bangkok Dangerous.
5. Drama
Drama movies are more on the serious side, often depicting characters who are in conflict with themselves, others or forces of nature. A good drama film portrays human beings in their bare form. This genre tends to include movies from other genres such as crime, melodrama, e.g. 21.
6. Epic
These movies base their story upon a mythical, legendary, or heroic person, and accompany it with a lavish setting, expensive costumes, finishing it off with some excellent music, e.g. 300.
7. Horror
These films are not for the faint - hearted, and are mean to cause panic, fear and alarm, accompanied by a horrifying ending, while, at the same time, captivating and thrilling you in a thrilling experience. Horror movies focus on the hated side of life, e.g. Cloverfield.
8. Musicals
Musicals are movies in which the songs sung by the cast are combined with the story. The songs, unlike in movies of other genres, are important to the plot, and serve to develop the character, e.g. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
9. Science - Fiction
Sci-Fi films tend to focus on scientific matters, and are supported via very imaginative settings, expert production design, advanced gadgets such as robots, or by some extreme graphics, e.g. Iron Man.
10. War
War Movies allow the war itself to be the main focus of the film. Typical aspects of a war movie involve Prisoners of War, espionage, bonding during the war, e.g. Saving Private Ryan.
11. Western
Often evoking sentiment with regard to old America, Western movies place focus on the settings, and the way of life during those days, e.g. 3:10 to Yuma
