About trance and house

Trance and house music are popular types of music in clubs where people go to enjoy the music and dance. Trance is a genre that is liked only by a select group of people, while house music can be enjoyed by most because it has generic beats and is not too fast or too slow.

What is Trance and House

House music originated in Chicago in the confines of houses, garages and clubs. It is a form of dance music which is an offshoot of disco music which combined R&B, soul, funk, salsa, rock and pop music which catered mainly to the African-American, Hispanic and gay communities. What originated in Chicago moved to other States such as New York and Detroit. It later became popular in Europe before it was incorporated into mainstream pop and dance music. House music is similar to disco music where the bass drum is used on every beat while complimenting it with synthesizers, electronic drums, bassline and electronic effects.

House music started with a slow tempo but as it progressed it became more up tempo music though in comparison to present day music, it can still be considered as mid-tempo which ranges from 118 to 135 bpm. House music is known as a four-to-the-floor beat, which is a kick drum on every beat played by a drum machine or a sampler. You will also hear a clap sound on the second and the fourth beat. Producers use different ways for bass sounds which varies from continuous, electronics, synthesizers to live electric bassists. House music favors notes which are on a single octave. House songs may also have disco, soul or gospel vocals with tambourine. Trans music was also introduced along with house music. Though there is similarity in the type of music, it is greatly influenced by Black and Latin music rather than synthetic sounds.

It is believed that the origin of House music was from a night club known as The Warehouse, which was popular with the teenagers living in Chicago in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This nightclub was patronized by black, gay and Latino men, who came to dance to the mix of classic disco by DJ Frankie Knuckles, European synthpop, new wave, industrial and punk recordings. Knuckles produced his dance tracks and mixes on D.J. International Records and on the Trax Records label and these dance tracks became known as House music. This club gained popularity in the mid 70s and towards the end of 70s had grown tremendously. Knuckles productions increased, and his mix of Jamie Principle song `Young Love' is considered the track that became the launching pad for house.

This genres of music followed the disco sounds played in the 1970's with the introduction of drum rhythms but did not use the prevailing orchestral arrangements. In the 1990s an offshoot of house music was developed and this was called rave music which was a form of repetitive music that was not considered very healthy as teenagers danced all night long to this type of music under the influence of drugs.

Trans and House music and the subsequent types of music that became popular as branches of this music, seem to have adverse effects on their fans and does not seem the type of music that should be encouraged.
