1. The Dark Knight
Successor to 'Batman Begins', The Dark Knight has been on the rampage, breaking every single box - office record on its way to absolute success. As of the 8th of September, 2008, it has grossed nearly $513 million domestically, only 2nd to Titanic, and 6th worldwide with $949 million.
The film is set a year after the 'Batman Begins' movie. Batman (Christopher Nolan), along with Lt. James Gordon and the new district attorney Harvey Dent find success in arresting the criminals that have been ruining Gotham City for years, until a new criminal, only known as the Joker (the late Heath Ledger), suddenly appears in Gotham City, descending the city into yet another round of chaos. Batman's war against the Joker start to get personal, making him improve the technology he uses to fight him. At the same time, he finds himself fighting for his love life, with Dent trying to make Rachel Dawes his own!
2. Bourne Ultimatum
Loosely based on the book of the same name, Bourne Ultimatum continues from where it left off in the previous installment, Bourne Supremacy. Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is, yet again, forced to come out of hiding after British reporter Simon Ross tries to uncover information on a dirty covert operation by the CIA, called Operation Blackbriar. As Bourne arranges a meeting with him, he realizes that they are being followed, and some more info from the reporter reveals a new set of memories, and he tries to uncover his dark past while dodging the bullets of the CIA!
The Bourne Ultimatum also made a lot in theatres, though not as much as 'The Dark Knight' ($442 million). It was widely praised by critics, who liked the fast - paced nature of the movie, and also appreciated the fact that the movie wasn't all the too unrealistic, though, like for the other installments, the shaky camera was criticized.
3. Wanted
This is something which really is a truly great action film, yet the theme is something that most of us dream of all our lives (I don't mean the 'assassin' part, but that we'd like to have that really 'special' ability).
Wanted focuses on the life of Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy), who's your typical office junkie. He works at a place which he absolutely hates, has a girlfriend who doesn't care about him, and a house (actually, a room) which really reeks. One day, his life is transformed when he realizes that his father (whom he thought was dead) was assassinated the day before, and there are people out to get him. He's then trained in the art of 'assassinating' and, after killing various people, finally meets up with his father's killer and shoots him, only to realize that the person he shot was actually his father and that The Company was working against him.
