About this article: How to Choose The Ideal Suit For You

Suits have been around for years and changed their styles throughout history. Even though suits are thought of as men's clothing, there are many suits for women now too. From business to casual, both men and women have a large line of suits to choose from for any occasion whether formal or casual.

How to choose the ideal suit for you
1. Choose a material

The first thing you have to do when choosing a suit is to look at the material. Though they all look the same, they differ in terms of quality, durability, price, and feel. However, there are differences, and many people recommend the use of 100% wool for your coat, because it's natural, really durable and wickedly stylish.

However, let's have a quick look at the other types of materials out there. You may try to be unique by going with a linen suit, but, don't be fooled by it's light - weight, because it gets wrinkled quickly, catches stains quickly, and doesn't give a good look.

Polyester is too old-fashioned and contains a lot of chemicals, which, effectively, makes it a no - no! Microfiber and teflon are pretty much the same!

2. Choose a style

If you ask anyone about a proper style for a suit, they'll most probably tell you to make sure it's single - breasted, navy or dark blue, plain (without any pinstripes or anything like that), and have 2 or 3 buttons on the front, and leave the bottom one undone when wearing it. Your sleeves should finish at your wrist, and show a teensy-weensy bit of your shirt sleeve.

3. Find a good place

It isn't always a good idea to do some window-shopping before you buy a coat. Therefore, ask your friends and co-workers where they got their suit. They'll be more than happy to tell you something! Make sure you're able to invest a good bit (not too much) money, and some time when buying a suit. Wear a good shirt and shoes when going, so that you have a good idea of what you'll look like. Make sure that the salesperson knows what he's doing, since you'll be relying heavily on his opinion when buying the suit!

4. Make sure it fits!

Just because you're buying a suit off-the-shelf doesn't mean that it shouldn't be well-fitting. Don't feel shy to tell the salesperson if you're not comfortable with the suit, because you'll be wasting a lot of money if the suit doesn't fit you properly! You should expect the salesperson to take all the necessary measurements, and then give you a recommendation. If they don't have one which fits you properly, get yourself out of there, and into a custom - tailor, who will make the suit according to your specification. Though it's a bit more expensive, at least you won't be squirming around in the suit during an ocassion!

5. Keep some extras

A common consensus is that you should have 3 suits, so that you always have at least one suit ready for wearing. One of them should be solid-navy, the other solid - charcoal or 'oxford' grey, and the last one should be a bit conservative, perhaps a gray one.
