There are various types of software that you can use on your PC. From applications that help you organize your calendar and schedule to ones that can give you the tools to create images, websites and other programs, there are lots of software available to help you achieve your goals.

Everything you see on display on your computer is software. There are many types of software's in the market today. Some are used for programming, word processing, data storage and graphics while others are used for gaming, surfing and other entertainment purposes.

Without software it will be impossible to communicate with the hardware in your computer. In short there are software's which are used to communicate with the hardware of your computer and then there are specific software's which use the hardware in your computer to complete certain tasks. These basic types of software's are called system software and application software.

System software's are used by the user to communicate with the hardware in the computer. The best and easiest system software's known are software's like Windows, Linux, UNIX and so on. These software's are created by software companies so that the users may actually be able to use computers. Windows is one of the leading system software's in the world. Windows is developed by the Microsoft Corporation which is arguably the largest software company in the world. Windows was responsible for developing the first GUI or the first Graphical User Interface. This was a major break through because all the systems software before Windows did not have any type of graphical interface.

Application software's are the software's which are run on the system software so that the user can use them to complete a certain task. Some application software's are used to manage databases, type letters, build presentations, write programs and run them, create animations and so on. There are many varieties of application software. Some of these applications as mentioned above are strictly used for business and corporate reasons while other software are used for entertainment.

Games are also application software's. Other software such as converters, DJ software's and medial players are used for entertainment purposes. These software's were developed after the inventions and production of the personal computers. There were games before the personal computer came into action, but it really started to boom after the personal computer came into the scene. Most of these software's which are created now are based for personal computers.

Even system software like Windows was created specifically for the use of home owners. The development of computer software is greatly because of the high demand for software's for personal computers. It would be impossible to use the computer or take advantage of any of the capabilities of a computer without the use of software. So software is like the translator between the computer hardware and the liveware or the users.
