Lord of the Rings

This trilogy can fall into a variety of genres including fantasy and action. This series is based on the book which goes by the same title and written by J.R.R.Tolkien. The story is about the Hobbit, Frodo who discovers the One Ring of the Dark Lord Sauron. The trilogy then goes onto describes the events which Frodo encounters as he sets on a voyage with 8 companions, to destroy the ring. One of the most famous series of all times, this trilogy took 8 years to make and a budget of $280 million. A fantastic movie series everyone is bound to love!!

Harry Potter

This 8 part series with 3 yet to be released has been a tremendous success. The series comprises of a wizard boy and his adventures at Hogwarts (the wizards' school) and in the surrounding wizard towns as he tries to defeat his parents' murderer and Dark Lord, Voldemort. The primary cast of British and Irish actors helps give the movie the same touches evoked by the book. The rights for the first four movies were sold to Warner Bros in 1999 for a whopping 1 million pounds!

Matrix

A trilogy in the science-fiction genre, the Matrix was written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers. The first film was released in March 1999, two sequels later followed in May and November 2003. The series attempts to combine complex science fiction and philosophy. The movie includes many other interesting elements too such as mythology, simulated reality, martial arts and even key concepts of a variety of religions! An interesting combination which you will surely love.

Shrek

Although this series consists of eight projects, just three have been released. This series is based on the book which goes by the same name, written by William Steig. The movie is about an ogre who sets out to rescue Princess Fiona who is locked in a tower. Shrek is sent to rescue the princess (who is also guarded by a Dragon) on the orders of Lord Farquaad. There are some interesting and very humorous twists in the story. This is a fantastic animation with a very unusual story and some truly unforgettable characters!

Pirates of the Caribbean

This is a fantastic trilogy of adventure films. And here's an interesting tidbit of info: this series is based on the Walt Disney theme park ride which goes by the same name. The first movie of the triology was released on July 2003 and its huge success set the venture to do the next two. The movie is about the journey of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and blacksmith Will turner (Orlando Bloom) to rescue Elizabeth who has been kidnapped by the cursed crew of the ghost ship, Black Pearl. A very interesting movie with a bit of everything in it and the unforgettable Captain Sparrow!
