Modern Book Writing

There is a vast difference between the modern book writing and the olden days book writing. The main aspects where there are differences are the language, descriptions and the settings. At present the characters are more dynamic and much attention is not paid to techniques. The photographs and illustrations play a great part in attracting readers.

In the ancient eras the number of people who bought books for their use was much less. The main reason for this was that most of the people in the society were illiterate. However, presently the world's literacy rate is above 80%. The authors who were well accepted as educated wrote the ancient books in complicated language. This could be due to the sophisticated language usage within the learned and aristocratic society. The books in the contemporary society are written for the readers attraction with simple language in general. Nevertheless, the books on subject matters such as religion, philosophy and medicine are still written in more involved language.

There are many aspects to which the modern book-writers should pay attention. The readers refuse ambiguity even in the poetry today. The society is very active and dynamic. Most of the readers, other than the students of various disciplines, read books for leisure. Thus, the writers should cater to their needs. The young readers always prefer to read stories of adventure, ghosts, mysteries, or love stories. These books should not contain long stories or difficult vocabulary and phrases. Even the ambiguous nature of a book will result in being rejected from the market. Therefore the book writing should be simple and to the point. Readers will prefer stories with happy conclusions.

The hard working or over activated members of the societies do not like to accept books with sad or unexpected harsh endings, such as death or failure of the hero or heroine; but they prefer stories portraying happiness. This is what the young and restless adults expect from a book. They try to ease their stress by reading storybooks.

There is another type of books, which have very great demand in the eastern world. These are the religious and philosophical books. The reason for the demand for these books is that the restless man needs more details of unseen attractions or phenomenon around his atmosphere. Writing such books is not an easy task but the authors have to take into consideration the needs of the modern society.

In general the contemporary authors must pay attention to the age and the socio cultural status of the reader. He /she should consider the age group of the reader to which he is catering and adjust his/her writings accordingly.

Whatever is accepted in one country or one community may get rejected by another country or community. The balanced approach of religions and / or the careful criticisms of readers should be paid attention. The settings should not be too familiar or too unfamiliar. The incidents and the characters should be easily absorbed into the readers inner thoughts.
