The children usually select any fashions, which they can observe among their friends. However, the appropriate garments and material should be chosen by the elders, since the children do not possess the knowledge on hygiene or weather conditions.

Very small children are not much of a problem since they will wear what is given to them. They will not be able to select themselves. So, parents can provide them with garments which are soft and appropriate for the weather. There are very expensive clothes, which are prepared out of silks and hard fabrics. These are not suitable for the tropical climate or summer time. The soft cotton garments in light colors are very much suitable for the infants and small toddlers in warm climate. The cold countries demand more cozy clothes for small children since they like to play outside even in cold weather. The bonnets, mittens, woolen socks and leather shoes are suitable for these conditions. In warm weather conditions, the mittens, bonnets and woolen socks should be avoided.

The plastic diapers should not be kept for a long period in infant's body. They should be changed and the babies should be allowed to stay free for sometimes before dressing with a new diaper. The panties of small children should not be (in any weather) in nylon or polyester. These should be in cotton and light colors. Avoid much frills, ribbons and hard elastics on the under garment (pants) of babies. This should apply to the children of pre-school age too.

The outer dresses should not be heavy on children of any age. The children are very playful. If the garments were heavy and tight, it will be difficult for them to play with others. The clothes with much elastic, piercing buttons and zippers should be avoided. The colors should be bright and with their favorites prints, such as animals, fruit, vehicles, and fairy tale characters. Children will like to have pockets all over the trousers and badges (cloth) on their backs. The colorful shorts and T- shirts are suitable for girls and boys below teen age. The caps are very famous among them; the parents can let them have caps at any time other than at the meal tables and in bed.

Covered shoes and socks are the best during bad weather conditions and in cold weather. In warm weather conditions the open shoes and sandals and slippers will be comfortable. The older children normally like to wear wristwatches and bracelets. The parents must not be too strict on such selections. Otherwise, they may become stubborn and may not respect the parent's selections.

Whatever garments are selected for the children they should be suitable for the age and size of the child.. The cost, fabric fashion and other social and cultural aspects too should be considered when you select the clothes for them. However, the child should not look like a miniature adult but a real child.
