The next important point to consider is where is the party going to be. Is it in a house or a hotel or any other venue and how many people are going to be there and what is the mix of the crowd like.
The other factors that are equally important when choosing a dress is, your age, your color, your size and your personal preference.
If it is a b'day party and it is to be held at home, then you can wear something that is not too casual but also not overly dressed. But if this same party is being held in a hotel, then more formal wear is appropriate. Consider also who the other invitees are. If you are able to know in advance who will be at this party, it will be easier for you to choose what you want to wear as you wouldn't want to be under dressed or over dressed. When choosing a dress for this occasion then always pick something that is age appropriate and will compliment your looks and your stature. Do not be over dressed. Do not wear something that will elaborate what you do not want to emphasize.
If it is a Christening party, regardless of where it is going to be held, whether in the house or in a hotel, you need to dress up for it. Choose a dress which is simple and more the type you would wear to church. It shouldn't be elaborate.
