Consumer shopping is a necessary activity for some, while it serves as an addiction or form of therapy for others. Some people shop only because they need to buy something for their home, for themselves or for their family. Others make it a recurring habit to obtain the latest in fashion, electronics and home ware. Departments of shopping include clothing for men, women and children, as well as electronics, computers, DVDs, books, and household items.

A computer is a man made machine invented to make the life of man easier. Like any other man made machine the computer is also known as a "dumb machine," which means that the computer cannot act on its own or basically the computer cannot think for it self.

In the evolution of computers, the computer went through major modifications which made the computer smaller, smarter, more reliable, more effective and more affordable. Theses leaps were recognized as the generations of computers. At the moment we are said to be experiencing the use of 5th generation computers. The 6th generation of computers is known as AI's or computer which will have an Artificial Intelligence.

The computers we are using now are extremely smart in their own right. As most of us know we now use computer for almost every thing we do. When we go to a bank to withdraw money, when we are watching the television or listening to the radio, when we switch on a light somewhere down the line a computer is helping humans to make sure that the end task is completed successfully. Computers are now used in almost every household as a source of information, knowledge and entertainment. As time goes on computers get smarter and smarter. Micro computers are mainly home or personal based computers. Super computers are computers which have a high capacity and speed. These types of computers are capable of processing a lot of information during a very short period of time. Again these computers are also used in the corporate world.
When buying a computer the first and foremost thing you need to do and need to know is why you are buying the computer. There are many reasons why an individual will buy a computer. It could be for learning purposes, information, communication, programming, graphics, animation, gaming, entertainment, business purposes and so on. Let's take learning as our first example. If you are starting to learn about computers then it will not be wise to buy a very expensive computer. It's advisable that you buy a second hand computer, if you can. Learning to use a computer comes with experience and experimentation. So when you are using the computer you need to explore the computer and try to do and figure as much sense out of it as possible. When you are doing so you are bound to make major mistakes, so it is not wise to buy a very expensive computer for learning purposes. Computer peripherals are also known as computer accessories. These are the extra things you need other than the system box of the computer. Some basic examples are the monitor, mouse and key board. Just buying a computer is not enough. In order to work on the computer you need the computer peripherals. There are loads and loads of computer accessories out in the market today. Some are essential like the monitor, key board, mouse, UPS and the speakers. Some other accessories like the printer, scanner, flash drives, plotters, magnetic tape and mikes are not essential towards the functionality of the computer. Basically computer peripherals can be divided into three groups as input devices, output devices and storage devices.
