About computer types

There are many different computer types in the market and it depends on what you need a computer for. While most office work can be done with minimal software, if the computer is required for a graphic artist or animator, more software and equipment needs to be added.

There are many types of computer classifications. The main four types of computers are called Mainframe computers, Mini computers, Micro computers and Super computers. Each type of computer is different to one another and is used for different purposes by different people.

Mainframe computers are big computers used buy big organizations like universities and other major businesses. A mini computer is also a multi user computer which is used by organizations as well. This type of computer lies in between the major multi-user computers (mainframes) and the single user computers. These single user computers are called micro computers. Micro computers are mainly home or personal based computers. Super computers are computers which have a high capacity and speed. These types of computers are capable of processing a lot of information during a very short period of time. Again these computers are also used in the corporate world.

Three of the above mentioned categories (mainframe computers, mini computers and super computers) are used by organizations and corporations. Micro computer is the only type of computer which is manufactured for single use. Out of these four major types of computers the micro computer is the most successful. Micro computers are produced for mass production and in truth was the bang of the computer world. Mainframe, mini and super computers were created before the personal computer was created. But the rise and expansion of computers and computer technology really came forward after the personal computer was created.

After the introduction of personal computers, more and more hardware and software companies sprang up. The demand for better quality hardware and software products kept rising. To meet the demand more and more companies were created and lots of skilled workers were hired so that major computer based organizations could compete with each other. The competition became so intense that some organizations did not last long. But the organizations which remained ended up becoming giants in the corporate world. The benefit of this strict competition actually helped computer technology in every way imaginable. This competition made sure that computer technology reached heights that never existed before.

Now personal computers can also be used by multi-users. This has threatened the existence of mini computers but is yet to reach the levels of the mainframe or the super computers. These categories of computers have evolved during the years and have reached a level of technology which earlier computer users might not have thought possible.
