About this article: Basic Children's Clothing

When choosing a dress for a party many factors have to be considered. Firstly, the most important factor to consider is what type of a party is it going to be. Is it a b'day party, a Christening party, a engagement party, a office party, a family reunion party or any other party.

Basic children's clothing
In every civilization, the children of different ages wear different types clothes suitable for their ages and to suit the climatic conditions. Their clothes are unisex during the infant age. In ancient times the children wore the small versions of the same clothes that the adults wore. Until the mid 19th century, other than the infants, all the children were clad in smaller size garments of what their parents wore. Then, they looked just as miniature adults.

At that time there were separate tailors in rich mansions to make clothes for children. Otherwise, female members of the family made the clothes for children at homes. In the western world boys wore coats, shirts, trousers, hats and shoes. Then the same way the girls wore just as their mothers, the maxi-frocks, hats, shoes and jewelry to match. The shoes were different from their mother's only by its size. There was no difference in east. The children wore as same as the adults but sometimes the jewelry were different. The clothes that eastern children wore were lighter than in the west due to the climate differences. The children too, wore the same colors, material and pattern as predetermined by the society.

However, changes occurred during the mid 19th century, after considering the views of the child educationists and philosophers. They introduced the idea that suitable clothes for the children will help in child development. Then, the parents were highly interested in providing specially made clothes for their children.

Today, the children's garments are made of different material, patterns and prints according to their ages. The infants have no special patterns but the clothes are made for the comfort of the baby. Light colors are always used for baby clothes. Material such as woolen is used in cold climates and light cotton is used in the tropical climate.

The toddlers should have light clothes when they start walking and running. If the clothes are heavy or made out of synthetic material it will be uncomfortable for them. Thus, the children below five years should wear light garments made out of natural material. The caps, mittens, shoes and socks too should not be very heavy. The toddlers of cold countries can use socks and mittens made out of wool but the children living in the tropical climate should wear garments made out of cotton. Mittens and socks are not suitable for all the occasions. The under pants of both sexes of this age should be always in light fabric, since they are spoilt and subject to change frequently.

The children from about five years to ten years prefer colorful clothes. The girls usually like m frocks and boys prefer trousers and shirts. Both the sexes can wear shorts and T-shirts in the hot climatic conditions. The caps and hats too could be similar patterns without discrimination of sexes. Unlike toddler's garments, the children prefer to have fashionable clothes with colorful prints on them.

The school children have to wear the uniforms stipulated by their own school. The specific material, color and the pattern will be as decided by the schools. All these stipulations are decided after taking climatic conditions, age groups and many more aspects including, whether the uniform is appealing to the students into consideration. Thus, the school going children should wear uniforms for schools and casual wear when not in school. Grand clothes will normally be worn for occasions such as weddings and parties.
