Books of The Bible |
The world's most famous and highest selling book is "The Bible" as most of us are aware already. The Bible is actually a collection of books and writings that were written down throughout the entire history of the Jews and Christians.
As Christianity and Judaism prospered and spread out in the world, several books of the Bible were included as part of different Christian denominations around the world. The New Testament section of the Bible is usually accepted and shared by almost all Christian denominations. The New Testament consists of twenty seven books. The New Testament begins with four Gospels written by disciples of Jesus Christ, namely Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
But the Old Testament consists of the older books of the Bible which are actually included differently by different canons of the Christian denominations. Various such old Books of the Bible are included differently in the canons of Jews, Catholics, Protestants and various European orthodox churches.
The Christian canon of the Bible includes the set of books that constitute the Old Testament. These books also correspond to the Hebrew Bible with some modifications, whereas in the Eastern Church, the corresponding books are called the Septuagint.
The age of the books under the Old Testament is controversial, and most research scholars have conflicting views on the periods when they were written or compiled. Though many scholars agree that the Hebrew Bible books were written between the twelfth and the second centuries before the birth of Christ.
The New Testament is also known by the name of the Greek New Testament, because the New Testament was written in Greek language. Greek was the standard spoken language of the Roman empire when the New Testament was written.
Genesis is the first book in the Old Testament. It is the original book of the Bible of Judaism and Christianity. It is the inaugural part of a series of five books known as the Pentateuch or the Torah. Exodus is the second book of the Old Testament. This book talks about the departure of Israelis out of Egypt and through the jungles to the Mount Sinai under the leadership of Moses.
The four Gospels in the New Tetament tell the story of the life and death of Jesus of Nazareth. Descriptions of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ are also given in the Gospels.
SUMMARY: There are several ancient books and letters that are together referred to as the Books of the Bible.
