A computer is a man made machine invented to make the life of man easier. Like any other man made machine the computer is also known as a "dumb machine," which means that the computer cannot act on its own or basically the computer cannot think for it self.

In the evolution of computers, the computer went through major modifications which made the computer smaller, smarter, more reliable, more effective and more affordable. Theses leaps were recognized as the generations of computers. At the moment we are said to be experiencing the use of 5th generation computers. The 6th generation of computers is known as AI's or computer which will have an Artificial Intelligence.

The computers we are using now are extremely smart in their own right. As most of us know we now use computer for almost every thing we do. When we go to a bank to withdraw money, when we are watching the television or listening to the radio, when we switch on a light somewhere down the line a computer is helping humans to make sure that the end task is completed successfully. Computers are now used in almost every household as a source of information, knowledge and entertainment. As time goes on computers get smarter and smarter. The computers available now are much faster, smarter and more reliable than the previous model. The transfer from the 5th generation to the 6th generation of computers has begun. It cannot be told exactly when it will happen, but now it seem the end result is inevitable.

Artificial Intelligence is at the moment a concept which has not yet been perfected. Having a computer to be able to act totally on its own is a much harder than it really sounds. When creating an artificial intelligence the programmer should program the computer in such away that it should be able to learn. Simply trying to program everything into the computer will cause the computer to crash. Well let's not get ahead of our selves. It is true that we are still to create a totally independent source of brain power but we have reached small goals. There is an AI in almost all the computer games that come out today, some AI are created in such away when a certain task it taught it will repeat the task and also figure out a more effective manner for the task to be completed. So AI is not a total stranger but a goal which still requires a lot of hard work and research to be done.

Today computers are used to send an e-mail to automated unit production to making puddings. Computers have made a major difference in the life of human beings. It is now almost impossible to imagine a life without computers. The technology we have been used to and most other luxuries that we take for granted today is mostly because somewhere down the line a computer helped a human to build it.
