One would always imagine that these types of dental treatments and procedures would be unquestionably and adequately covered by insurance. Beware! Consider again – not always so. This alone may not be enough as you might not be able to decipher the implications of the fine print. In which case be bold to call your insurance company or agent and ask the leading questions. There is a possibility that these following items could be covered by your policy, or a percentage of their costs might be reimbursed:
§ Veneer required for restoration after an accident
§ Pre veneer treatments involving bite adjustments and root canals
Although the actual situation may vary slightly in each case and policy, by and large your insurance cover will not provide for your new set of brilliant veneers – except possibly in the cases mentioned above.
So, why not? Simply because ‘veneers’ are classified as ‘cosmetic dentistry’ - which items, insurance companies don’t pick up the tab for. Check if you think I am mistaken.
Hold on! - Do not be disheartened however! There is a way out – a small loophole, albeit a possible ‘out’ for you. If you are not one of those fastidious people who insist on the original veneer to execute a perfect and soul shattering grin for you – then you can – if you are not too fussy – consider the option of direct bonding for your teeth.
While no where near as sophisticated or expensive, a little less durable and a little less artistic – these useful little alternative structures are considered – or rather billed as ‘fillings’ – but may yet just be able to provide you with your target. Have a talk with your cosmetic dentist – you could save some money with the use of a little sneaky strategy, if you try!
