Three Great Private High Schools in the Bay Area ~ Sheena West

Looking for good private high schools? Bay Area cities will have the answer. This area boasts of a wide selection of top-tier private schools, each renowned for their balanced academic programs, well-maintained facilities, and extracurricular offerings.  As long as you do your research early, you’re bound to find a school that suits your child’s needs and your family’s values. Start your search with these three excellent high schools.

Roger Williams Academy

Roger Williams Academy has a unique approach to education – they believe in teaching the individual child rather than a roomful of students.  If your child would rather learn at his or her own pace, this school might be the one. High school students at Roger Williams can be enrolled in one of three different programs. The Honors Track is for brilliant students who have maintained an academic average of at least 94% in their freshmen year. These students will be given modules so that they can maintain their A average. Other college-bound students usually fall under the College Preparatory Track, which is similar to the Honors Track minus the A-average requirement. Students who have graduated from this track usually have no trouble getting into a good college. Finally, the General Diploma Track contains the basic subjects required for a student to graduate and obtain a high school diploma.

Mid-Peninsula High School

Like Roger Williams Academy, Mid-Peninsula High School believes in a personalized approach to learning.  After all, every student has a unique learning style that is often not met in public schools and traditional private high schools.  Mid-Peninsula is perfect for students who need a flexible academic program and a small environment.  Every student receives extensive guidance counseling and forms good relationships with the school’s teachers, who serve as excellent mentors and role models.  This personalized approach to education ensures that each student masters the fundamentals of each subject, develops critical thinking skills, and finds creative ways to express themselves.  Besides general secondary education, Mid-Peninsula also offers a number of art electives, online advanced placement classes, and college preparatory classes.

Woodside Priory School

Ten minutes away from Stanford University is a sprawling 50-acre rural campus that houses one of the best boarding schools in the state. This school is Woodside Priory School, a co-educational college prep school that follows the Benedictine tradition.  Benedictine educators believe in more than just academic success; they strive to make sure that each student also grows spiritually and discovers their unique gifts. That’s why the school’s rigorous college prep program does not merely guarantee acceptance into the best colleges in the country.  With a Woodside Priory education, your child will flourish at his or her chosen field. A variety of elective classes are available to enhance the students' educational experience, while life-changing field trips around the country and the world open their minds to different ways of thinking. In addition, the boarding school set-up gives students the chance to form meaningful, life-long friendships with people from various social backgrounds, cultures, and religions.

These are just three of many wonderful choices available for private high schools in the Bay Area.
