CHILDHOOD EDUCATION Faith-Based Preschools in San Francisco ~ Sheena West
If you are a person of faith, it’s probably important to you that your child grow up learning about your faith and heritage. Get an early start with faith-based San Francisco preschools. Because the city is so diverse, there are options for every family, no matter what their religion. For Jewish and Christian parents, there are a plethora of options. Listed below are just a few preschools that offer faith based curriculum and a great early childhood education.
Temple Emanu-El Preschool
This preschool is connected with the Congregation of Emanu-El near Presidio. Many of the members of the preschool are members of the congregation, but not all are. The families are welcoming, and the atmosphere is great for parents who want their children to have an early childhood education based on Jewish culture and values.
The preschool employs only certified, experienced teachers, and it features a low teacher to student ratio of about one to six. Because of this, students can experience a fun education that is focused on their individual needs and personalities. While students are encouraged to learn through play, they’re also exposed to a challenging curriculum that allows them to prepare for kindergarten. Students from this school get into some of the best private elementary schools in the area because of the basic educational foundation laid for them by Temple Emanu-El Preschool.
St. Nicholas Preschool and Day Care
The St. Nicholas Preschool and Day Care is associated with the St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church on Diamond Heights Boulevard. This year-round school and daycare accepts children three months to five years. Students can attend school either part time or full time, depending on the parents’ needs and expectations.
Students at St. Nicholas are brought into an environment where play is important, but they are also exposed to important lessons. Teachers work with students on verbal skills, problem solving skills, and basic self confidence. They also receive instruction based on Orthodox Christian principles and teachings. While many of those who attend the preschool are members of St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church, it isn’t necessary that your family attend the church in order to check out the preschool and day care.
Hillside Christian Academy
Hillside Christian Academy is a private kindergarten and elementary school that also has a preschool. The school enrolls children who are potty-trained and are at least two and a half years old. Children can be a part of the preschool until their five, after which point they’ll move up to the kindergarten class. Students can attend school either half day or all day, and they can attend the whole week or part of the week.
This school offers a structured setting with classroom time where students learn about basic skills and are taught based on Christian principles. Students also get plenty of time throughout the day to freely explore their indoor and outdoor environments. Such exploration helps students learn from their native curiosity and build self confidence. This blend of structure and free play helps students prepare for a more structured school environment later on.
