- PLAYGROUPS Sports Camps in the Bay Area for the Kids ~ Sheena West
If you want your kids to love being active for their entire lives, starting out with sports classes when they’re young is a fantastic idea. Sports classes allow kids to experience new ways of moving, even when they’re meeting new friends and having a blast. Luckily, there are tons of sports classes in San Francisco for kids. Many of them are focused on martial arts or even yoga, but you can find a whole range of classes for your kids to enjoy. Here are just a couple of places you’ll find great classes for your kids:
Paresh Martial Arts
Paresh Martial Arts has a great reputation for teaching kids about martial arts in a fun and safe environment. Kids can start learning about martial arts as soon as they’re three years old. The classes go up by level past that age, so it’s a good idea to get your kids started early. At the younger ages, kids will learn about basic martial arts etiquette and moves, and they progress through the program at a safe pace that still keeps things interesting.
One of the most popular classes that Paresh Martial Arts offers is a family martial arts class. Kids and their parents can come to class and learn about different martial arts concepts together. This makes for a great weekly activity for you and your kids, and you can even practice the moves you learn at home!
Acrosports is another facility that specializes in classes for kids. These are sports classes like you won’t find anywhere else, though. In these classes, kids can learn about gymnastics, tumbling, trampoline sports, board sports, and more. Here are a few of the classes kids can take at Acrosports:
Tumbling – Preschool and school-aged kids can both take tumbling classes that work on floor tumbling and tumble track tumbling. These classes build flexibility and athletic ability in general, and they allow kids to move on to circus performance and dance classes later on, if they wish.
Trampoline – These classes are great workouts for kids. Instead of just jumping on the trampoline, kids learn all sorts of moves they can do on this backyard favorite. They’ll dive and flip and tumble, and they’ll be able to bring some of these moves safely home to your backyard.
Board Sports – If your family goes skiing and snowboarding a lot, this class can help your kids learn how to do tricks on their boards. They’ll work on tumbling on the floor and on the trampoline, but everything they do will be geared toward teaching them to do the same tricks on the water or the snow.
Gymnastics – If you want your children to have a more well-rounded athletic education, this may be the option for you.
These classes teach tumbling as well as all the traditional gymnastic events, including bars, rings, and vault.
Wushu – This is a form of martial arts that lends itself well to teaching kids to be aware of their bodies, which is helpful later on if they choose to advance in gymnastics. This is a well-rounded class for students of many levels.
Acrosports prepares students to live healthy, happy lives with exercise as a major component, but it can also prepare students for performance in circuses or on the stage. In fact, many of the adult classes at Acrosports are geared toward performance in the long run!
These are only some of the many sports classes in San Francisco that could help your child be active and energetic for the rest of their lives.
