PLAYGROUPS Activities in San Francisco for Teenagers ~ Sheena West
San Francisco can be a wonderful place to raise kids, partly because there are activities in San Francisco for kids of all ages. With teenagers, it might be a bit more difficult to ferret out the activities they’re really love. Here are just a few options that your teens might enjoy:
Check out Beach Blanket Babylon
This long-running show has become an institution in San Francisco. It’s basically a cabaret style show that does spoofs of current icons and events. As soon as your teens are old enough to watch the news and understand what’s going on in their world, they’re old enough to enjoy Beach Blanket Babylon. They must be over the age of twelve to get into one of the evening showings, so this could be a great trip for some one-on-one time with your older children.
The show has gotten rave review for thirty-four years, and it continues to update according to recent events and figures in pop culture. Of course, the humor might be a little out of their league at times. If you’re concerned, see the show yourself before you decide to take your teen.
Walk Through the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers
The San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers is definitely not for every teenager, but if your teen is interested in natural things, they may enjoy it. It’s not huge, but it does have rotating displays and a collection of odd and interesting flowers. Plus, it’s in the midst of the Golden Gate Park, so it’s a great place to go for a picnic lunch or to just read a book out on the lawn.
When you go to the conservatory, you’ll be able to enjoy looking at a wide variety of plants, and it’s a great place to get out of the fog and chill because it’s always hot there!
Go Shopping at The Cannery
What teenager doesn’t enjoy shopping? Shopping can also be a good way for your kids to learn to be better with money. Give them a twenty dollar bill for the day, take them to The Cannery, and see what happens. You can change the amount based on your child’s needs and your own budget, but at any rate, your kids will learn the real value of a dollar, especially if they have to feed themselves in one of The Cannery’s many restaurants.
This old peach canning factory is now an interesting mall with tons of shops and restaurants for teenagers, kids, and adults alike. It can be a fun place for older teens to hang out with their friends, or you can go back-to-school shopping together. The outdoor courtyard often plays host to street performers that can be fun and amazing to watch, and The Cannery often puts on free music, comedy, and other entertainment events for guests to enjoy.
These are just some of the activities in San Francisco that your teens might find interesting!
