An Interview with Drs. Isabel Kazemi and Surveen Singh on LASIK.

Drs. Isabel Kazemi and Surveen Singh are Optometrists and have answered some common questions that Bizymoms visitors have about LASIK.

Q.  What is LASIK?

A.  LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery that uses either a surgical blade or a laser to make a small incision/flap in the cornea (front clear part of the eye). This flap is then lifted and the surface underneath is  made microscopically thinner with a laser.  This process effectively reduces or eliminates the need for glasses for most tasks.  Nearsightedness, Farsightedness and astigmatism can be corrected by this procedure. We personally refer our patients directly one of the top LASIK surgeons in the Bay Area, Dr. Ella Faktorovich.  We have been sending patients to her for over 10 years with impeccable results.

Q.  How long does the surgery take?

A.  The procedure itself takes less than 15 minutes, but there is some waiting time in between eyes and in between the time the flap is made and the laser is applied.  Both eyes are generally done on the same day.

Q.  How soon after LASIK can I return to work?

A.  You can often return to work the next day, but it is recommended that you consider taking the next day off, especially since you also need to see the surgeon one day post operatively.

Q.  Will I need reading glasses after my surgery?

A.  If you are over 40, you may need glasses for reading and/or the computer after surgery.

Q.  How soon can I drive after the surgery?

A.  You should be able to drive the next day.

Q.  What type of anesthesia is used during the surgery?

A.  It is local anesthesia around the eye.  You do have to remain awake for the procedure, but can request medication to relax you.

Q.  Will I be able to have both eyes treated at the same time?

A.  Yes.

Q.  How can we contact Drs. Kazemi and Singh if we have further questions?
