An Interview with Dr. Alison Gordon on LASIK.

Dr. Alison Gordon is an Ophthalmologist and has answered some common questions that Bizymoms visitors have about LASIK.

Q.  What is LASIK?

A.  LASIK stands for Laser Assisted Keratomileusis, and it is a procedure that helps to eliminate a person’s need for glasses or contact lenses. A thorough ocular examination and certain studies of your eye are needed prior to determining if you would be a  good candidate for LASIK. During the procedure, a femtosecond laser is first used to create a flap in your cornea. This flap is then lifted and the laser treatment is applied to reshape the cornea and correct the refractive error (glasses prescription). The flap is then put back in place. Patients usually notice an immediate improvement in their vision that same day.

Q.  How long does the surgery take?

A.  The surgery itself takes about 20 minutes, but you are at our office on the day of the procedure for about an hour.

Q.  What type of anesthesia is used during the surgery?

A.  We give you some medicine when you arrive to help you relax during the procedure and to help you sleep when you go home after surgery. During surgery we use topical numbing drops for your eyes. No general anesthesia or IV sedation is needed for LASIK.

Q.  Will I be able to have both eyes treated at the same time?

A.  Yes

Q.  How can we contact Dr. Gordon if we have further questions?
