| Dr. Mitchel P. Goldman is board certified Dermatologist by the American Board of Dermatology. Here the doctor has answered some common questions that Bizymoms visitors have about Cosmetic Dermatology.
Q. Is cosmetic dermatology safe?
A. Yes, we have a fully accredited surgical facility and office. 99% of ALL of our procedures are performed on totally awake patients. Even liposuction/liposculpture and laser resurfacings can be performed on awake patients that are sedated in our state-of-the-art, operating rooms. While there is always a risk of infection or scarring from almost any cosmetic procedure, this is extremely rare in our practice. In fact, we specialize in treating scarring as well as "mistakes" from other doctors who perform "cosmetic" procedures.
Q. What kinds of skin defects can cosmetic dermatology resolve?
A. Unwanted leg veins; unwanted wrinkles; irregular skin pigmentation; excessive body and/or facial hair; sun damage and early skin cancer changes on the face and body; sagging skin; irregular fat deposits and bulging fat like "love handles" ,back "wings" ,underarm flab, saddle bags and the like.
Q. What is cosmetic dermatology?
A. Exactly what the two words say: improving the appearance of the skin.
Q. What kind of treatment is used for cosmetic dermatology?
A. This all depends on what you would like to improve. Oftentimes we use a neuromodulator like Botox™ or Dysport™ to soften muscle movement of fillers like Juvederm™, Restylane™, Radiesse™, Sculpture™, Prevelle Silk™, and more to erase wrinkles and skin folds or a variety of lasers to smooth the skin and even out the skin color by removing red capillaries, brown spots and the like. Our practice has 38 different laser machines. The reason we have so many is that each laser does something different and is best for certain conditions and skin types. Most physicians can only afford 1 or 2 lasers since they can cost between $75,000 and $150,000 each. How then can we afford to have almost $4,000,000 worth of lasers? We actually work with a variety of laser companies to develop and test their lasers so we get them at a really excellent price. By having more lasers than virtually ANY other private practice in the world, we are best able to choose the best laser for the patients specific concern and not try and use one laser for everything. That is what separates our practice from all others.
