An Interview with Dr. Ali Fakhimi on Tooth Whitening
Dr. Ali Fakhimi is a dentist and has answered some of the most common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Tooth Whitening.
Q. What is tooth whitening?
A. There are different techniques of doing teeth whitening. We do two techniques: one hour in office tooth whitening where we apply the whitening gel over the teeth and place a plasma light close to the teeth so that the gel can penetrate the tooth surface and whiten. The second method are the take home trays where you inject the whitening gel in the trays and wear the trays at home for a few hours.
Q. Who can benefit from teeth whitening?
A. Anyone who has stained or yellow teeth (smokers, coffee/tea driners) and some patients with Tetracycline staining.
Q. Who should not undergo teeth whitening?
A. Children under 16 and pregnant women, and people who have very sensitive teeth.
Q. What does tooth whitening involve?
A. The one hour teeth whitening would involve the patient to come to the office, have had their teeth cleaned very recently, make sure their teeth are stain free, isolate the gum and the lips, apply the gel and place the light over the teeth for one hour while the patient watches a movie or any program on TV. The take home technique require the patient to come in and take molds of their teeth so that we can fabricate the bleaching trays, which will be ready the following day.
Q. How long does this take?
A. The in office technique takes roughly an hour and the take home technique roughly 25 minutes.
Q. How much does tooth whitening cost?
A. Our in office (Zoom) technique (which includes the take home kit) costs $249 and the take home costs $175.
Q. What are the side effects?
A. Side effects are tooth sensitivity which lasts about 24 to 48 hours.
