An Interview with Dr. David Eshom on Tooth Whitening
Dr. David Eshom is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Tooth Whitening.
Q. What is tooth whitening?
A. There are three types of teeth whitening that we offer in our dental office.
1. Custom at-home teeth whitening trays: Custom made trays are used in conjunction with a bleaching gel for the most conservative approach to brightening your smile. Typical results can be seen within 10 days.
2. Laser Teeth Whitening: a one-hour teeth whitening service offered in office. A whitening gel is applied to the surface of the teeth and then a special light is used to accelerate the whitening process.
3. Deep Bleaching: Used for serious teeth stains, including stains caused by tetracycline, our deep bleaching is the most powerful tooth whitener we offer. Deep bleaching uses a combination of lasers and custom made trays with specially formulated whitening gel to give our patients the most dramatic results.
Q. Who may benefit from teeth whitening?
A. Anyone who want whiter teeth or anyone who has a slight coloration of the teeth can benefit from teeth whitening, whether our patients have a yellow to brown tint or a more severe gray blue tint to their tooth color will benefit from whitening.
Q. Who are not recommended to undergo teeth whitening?
A. Women who are pregnant or breast feeding are not recommended to undergo teeth whitening. Those patients with known sensitivities to teeth whitening agents are also cautioned when choosing to undergo teeth whitening. Patients that have tooth colored fillings or front crowns or veneers need to be cautious with whitening because the shade change can cause the natural teeth to whiten and the other will not whiten.
Q. What does tooth whitening involve?
A. Depending on the type of teeth whitening you choose, your treatment may include custom made trays to be used one hour each day over 10 days, a one-hour in office visit, which accelerates the teeth whitening process and reduces the amount of time it takes to get a bright smile.
Q. How long does this take?
A. Anywhere from one hour to 10 days, depending on the teeth whitening solution that is right for you.
Q. How much does tooth whitening cost?
A. Our office offers free at home teeth whitening trays to all new patients upon first dental visit and exam/ treatment. Laser teeth whitening and Deep Bleaching will cost between $550-$750.
Q. What are the side effects?
A. Some people experience sensitivity with teeth whitening, for these patients we recommend breaks between whitening, which will extend the amount of time it takes to reach the ultimate white goal. Any sensitivity to whitening goes away in 24 hours. There is no damage to enamel or gums from whitening.
Q. How to contact Dr. Eshom if we have further questions?
