Q. What are dental implants?
A. Dental implants are the next best thing to replacing your own natural teeth. They take the place of the root of the tooth and gets placed into bone with a very easy procedure.
Q. What are the benefits of dental implants?
A. They give you the ability to be able to have proper function and nutrition. They are fixed into your mouth, thus it can also give you psychological benefits of not getting older as one might feel with partial or full dentures. Many of my patients are only in need of one or two teeth thus it helps preserve the unnecessary need of cutting adjacent teeth for creating a bridge.
Q. How long does an implant last?
A. If the bite is correct and the implant is placed into at least 10 mm of bone and there is proper integration then it should last 15-20 years, if not longer.
Q. What are implants made of?
A. They are made of titanium metal.
Q. Who is a candidate for implants?
A. Any patient that has a missing tooth and presents with enough bone in the area of concern.
Q. How are dental implants placed?
A. Dentists have different approaches to implant placement. At our practice we use the most up to date technology to make sure of the accuracy of the placement.
Q. How long does it take?
A. Since we use the highest technology available most of our work is done prior to the placement of the actual implant thus we typically place the actual implant in a period of about 5-10 minutes.
