An Interview with Dr. David S. Thomas on Face Lift Surgery.

Dr. David S. Thomas is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Here the doctor has answered some common questions that Bizymoms visitors have about Face Lift Surgery.

Q.  Is a facelift performed under general anesthesia?

A.  Generally facelifts are done under general anesthesia.  A light general anesthetic is used in addition to local anesthesia, which is administered once you are asleep.  This produces very little nausea once you wake up.  Facelifts may also be done with local anesthetic and sedation.

Q.  How long after my facelift can I resume normal activities?

A.  Most patients will resume light normal activities around their homes by two or three days after surgery.  The majority of the bruising and swelling subside in two weeks; so many people plan to return to work after two weeks.  It takes three weeks to resume a full range of physical activities such as running and going to the gym.  It takes almost six weeks to reach to end of the healing process and look your best.

Q.  How do I find a qualified surgeon in my area?

A.  As with any search it is wise to discuss this with people close to you that you trust.  Visit the websites of various surgeons.  Once you have a list of potential choices you should check for Board Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  This will insure that you are dealing with a well trained and ethical surgeon. From there you should consult with two or three of your top choices.  During that consultation ask to see before and after photos of the surgeon’s work.  Inquire about the number of facelifts he/she does.  Determine if this is someone you can trust and with whom you can have an open professional relationship.  Do you feel comfortable asking questions?  Are the answers you receive easily understood?  If brief, are you on the same page?

Q.  Who is a good candidate for facelift surgery?

A.  The best candidates for a facelift are looking for correction of loose and hanging jowls and a stringy loose neck.  Other areas of the face may show signs of aging that can be corrected with a brow lift or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).  You can determine the relative merits of each with a personal consultation.  Best results are obtained before the skin has lost all of its elasticity.  We are seeing and treating people in their mid forties to early fifties with great results.

Q.  How can we contact Dr. Thomas if we have further questions?

A.  You can visit my website at  www.davidsthomasmd.com, email info@davidsthomasmd.com or call us at 801 355 0731.
