Q. What is Breast Lifting?
A. Generally, breast lift surgery refers to lifting mostly the nipple and the areola and to a lesser extent, the actual breast. If one tries to lift the breast too high (along with the nipple), the nipple generally stays up but the weight of the breast tissue causes the breast to descend back down.
Q. How is breast lift surgery done?
A. By removing the extra skin above and around the nipple and areola. Some internal sutures can be placed inside the breast tissue to lift it as well.
Q. What is the recovery period like?
A. Generally, a patient is back to normal within 2-3 weeks.
Q. Who is an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery?
A. The more ptotic (saggy) a woman’s breasts are, the more likely she will be to accept the scars that accompany a breast lift. Someone who needs just a little bit of a lift might be less accepting of the potential scars that are a result of breast lifts.
Q. Are there risks and complications to a breast lift surgery?
A. Every surgery has risks. With breast lifting, scarring is generally the most frequent potential problem.
Q. How long do the results last?
A. Generally for many years. The most common things that cause a recurrent need for a breast lift are pregnancy, breast feeding, significant weight gain followed by weight loss, hormonal changes, and TIME.
Q. How much does breast lift surgery cost?
A. It depends on the technique of the lift required.
