Q.  What are dental implants?

A. Implants are usually the most recommended treatment to replace a missing tooth. An implant is a small titanium post that replaces the root of the tooth.

Q.  What are the benefits of dental implants?

A. Implants are long lasting, retain bone structure my stimulation (similar to your natural tooth), prevent shifting of adjacent teeth, and replaces the missing tooth. Implants are not always best for everyone it is important to consult with your dentist and asses all the options.

Q.  How long does an implant last?

A. Implants last a lifetime if there are ideal oral conditions. As a person ages it is normal to start losing bone structure, if it is aggressive just as your natural tooth will get loose so will the implant. With all dental restorations it is important to see a dentist on a regular basis to catch problems early and prevent massive damage.

Q.  What are implants made of?

A. Implants are made of titanium.

Q.  Who is a candidate for implants?

A. There are many determining factors to consider in determining who is a candidate for the implants; such as physical health, oral health, medications being taken, bone structure, nerve positioning in the jaw, sinus position, patient compliance, patients ability to heal. There are so many factors to consider, but anyone can be a candidate.

Q.  How are dental implants placed?

A. Dental implants are places by drilling a small round hole in the jaw, sometimes a bone graft is necessary to ensure proper embracement of the implant. Then the small titanium post is placed in the hole. You wait around six months for the bone to heal around and embrace the implant then you get an abutment and crown.
