An Interview with Jill A. Collins, MTI on Massage

An Interview featuring Jill A. Collins, MTI as a Wellness Specialist on Bizymoms Rogers city

Q.  What is a facial treatment and what are the steps of an effective facial? Also what are the cost factors of facials?

A. While facials are taught to the students so that they will have experience in spa services, it is Jill’s personal opinion that they are best done by a licensed esthetician, as they are trained in more invasive techniques (such as removal of blackheads and facial peels). Massage therapists in this state are only allowed to use topical treatments, which one can easily do for themselves at home, and much less expensively. The benefit of having a massage therapist do a facial is that it usually comes with a facial massage by someone trained in specific massage technique.

Q. What are the types of massage treatments available?

A. Before graduating, students are trained in Swedish massage, chair massage, essential oil therapy, facials and stone massage making them an immediate asset to employers in the community.

Q. What are the benefits of a massage treatment?

A. The benefits of massage are most notably known for the reduction of stress, however, our program teaches and implements massage therapy technique as healthcare, both as preventative maintenance and as an aid in the healing process once injury has occurred.

As massage therapists are trained specifically in the manual and mechanical manipulation of soft tissue in the body for therapeutic purposes, a variety of benefits can be obtained through massage therapy besides simple stress relief. Massage therapy affects every system of the body. It aids in relief from numerous common conditions. It generally helps in lowering blood pressure, relieving musculoskeletal pain, and decreasing neurological pain. It also offers relief in specific conditions such as fibromyalgia, plantar fasciaitis, receovery from surgical procedures and accidents. It helps to eliminate toxins from the body, and speed circulation to areas of injury for healing. It prepares athletes to be in optimum shape for competition as well as a quick and healthy recovery after strenuous competition or activity. It reduces edema (swelling) in patients who have had a mastectomy when employing lymphatic drainage technique. It can lower the dosage and/or need for pain maintentance medication as well as other drugs for various conditions such as depression. The benefits are numerous and unique to each individual and with the cost of healthcare at an all time high, can be a more manageable financial investment in one’s health for certain problems.
