Wedding Planning on a Budget

It might not sound romantic but planning your wedding budget can be the first sensible thing you can do as a couple. It’s not about how much money you have, but rather how you use what you’ve got. It’s important you have a realistic idea of how much you have to work with or the chances are you will overspend. A wedding doesn’t have to be expensive to provide a wonderful experience. Here are few suggestions on how to cut costs and still have a beautiful wedding:

SET A BUDGET – Creating a budget will keep your wedding spending under control.

PRIORITIZE SPENDING - Prioritize to spend more on the things that truly matters to you.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

GIVE YOURSELF TIME – Give yourself ample time, so that you don’t feel rushed at the last minute.

DRESS SELECTION – If you are not serious about having a new dress, go for a second hand dress. If you are not planning to keep your wedding dress for future generations rent your dress. You can also consider an evening gown for a difference.

DO YOUR OWN HAIR AND MAKE UP – You can save a lot of money if you can do your own hair and makeup, or get a friend or relative to do it for you.

WEAR SUITS – You can have the men wear suits instead of tuxes. Suits are better investment.

LET THE BRIDESMAIDS WEAR THEIR OWN DRESSES – If you allow your bridesmaids wear their own dresses they’ll save money, and you’ll know that they’ll be comfortable wearing a dress they picked. You can pick a certain color to coordinate them all.

FLOWERS – Grow your own, if you have time. If you don’t have the resources to plant you might find more reasonable wholesale prices at a local flower market. Use flowers which are in season, they will be readily available and much more reasonably priced.

LIMIT YOUR GUEST LIST – Don’t invite people you barely know.

HAVE A MID WEEK WEDDING – Most weddings are held on Saturdays, but you can save quite a bit of money by having your wedding midweek.

BE CRAETIVE WITH THE LOCATION – If possible, a family member’s backyard or a beautiful city park can make ideal settings for a romantic ceremony reception.

USE NON TRADITIONAL ITEMS – Get creative with your decorations and let them personalize your wedding.

INVITATIONS – Make your own invitations, ask your guests to reply online or by phone.

ENTERTAINMENT – Hire amateur musicians or give a chance for your talented friend or relative.

FOOD – Chooses seasonal ingredients and simple recipes. Consider a buffet option, it’s usually cheaper. Also consider having a cash bar.

HONEYMOON – Avoid travelling during high season peak tourist time.

he point is to strike a balance. You don’t want to look needy on your wedding day, but also don’t want to build a lifetime’s worth of debt. If you do accumulate massive credit card debt while planning your wedding, you might think about transferring those balances to a new low rate care so you can take some time to pay down your balance.
