The shoulder restraints also consist of three parts. The harness, collar and tether. The shoulder restraints alone weigh approximately 1.5 pounds.
The second in line is the Fire-Retardant Suits, which actually serves two purposes. One of course to safeguard the NASCAR drivers from a sudden fire and prevent burns. Another to exhibit the sponsor of the particular team.
When talking of fire, Fire-Retardant Gloves have also come in handy, also with two purposes. One as the name claims to prevent burns in case of fire. The other to give the drivers a good grip on the wheel.
