| If you view a game of baseball you would see players hitting a ball and running around the field and skidding at a point when a person in the field throws the ball. There you have already caught up to the basics of the game. But if you are interested in trying your hands at the game, here are the basic rules and objectives behind this game.
To begin with do you know the number of players in a team? They allow ten players on a side, but at the same time all cannot be on the play field together. A team consists of nine players as field and an extra player, as the extra hitter. Thus the team can have ten players but no more than nine players are allowed to the field.
A game of baseball consists of nine innings, which is the standard number of innings. Younger levels can be of six innings. Each team tries to score as much runs as much as possible within three outs. The other team plays defense. Their main aim is to try to get the three outs, which would limit the number of runs scored by the batting team.
When batting your eyes should always be on the baseball. There will be an umpire right at the back of the plate. He will state whether the pitch was thrown in the strike area. If yes, it is a ‘strike’, if not then the pitch is called ‘ball’. When batting you have four balls and three strikes. If the four balls come before the three strikes are made, then it is referred to as a ‘walk’, you can either obtain a free pass to ‘walk’ or go to the first base. If the three strikes are made before the four balls, then it’s a strikeout, your turn to bat is over, and the opposition team gets one out.
There are four plates, referred to as the first, second, third and the home plate. Infield is designed to the shape of a diamond. To obtain an out, the defensive team should throw the ball to the nearest base before the runner gets there or catch the ball before it falls on the ground. To win a game, your team must simply achieve more runs then the other team.
These are just the basic rules to start playing the game. But there are more rules you must be familiar with how to call for appeals, etc. Try to collect more information from anyone in the community as the greatest past time especially of American citizens, you will not find a better source then first hand information from the players. Remember to wear safety gears and be prepared to get your clothes dirty. Play safe. When fielding keep your glove in front of your face, you be sure of not getting hurt with a fly ball and will also have a better chance of catching it. |
