| Many may play baseball as a pastime, but for professional players this is their career. This sport has provided entertainment, sportsmanship and family fun for years. Baseball has created revenue of millions of dollars in every year while creating a sense of patriotic sprit within the crowd. Baseball players have even been remembered as great athletes, even years after they have ceased playing the game. Training given to the baseball players is so intense that the level of athleticism that most of the famous baseball players have is outstanding. This level of athleticism keep growing so fast that players break the records of the past every year. As baseball is such a popular and important industry in United States, there is a lot of money invested and earned in this business. Coaches and players are now paid millions of dollars a year. In fact most baseball players are paid more than the CEOs of large companies.
In the long history of baseball, many players have stood out and created history for baseball by showing their skill in many areas. If we start with homeruns, which is the most exciting and important moment during the game for players and audience, many baseball players are still being remembered for their great achievements in taking these runs. For example, Mel Ott, a player of New York was the first national leaguer to hit 500 home runs. Babe Ruth was able to score 714 home runs at a time when only two men were able to hit pass the 300 homerun mark, Lou Gehrin with 378 and Rogers Hornsby with 300. Hank Aaron is the record holder with 755 homeruns in his life time of play. He also has a record of over 3,000 hits and a batting average of over 0.300. To this date the batting title has been received by only two players to date. This title is given based on their skill in batting and hitting the ball. Roger Hornsby in 1922 and 1925, Ted Williams in 1942 and 1947 were the ones to be awarded the two triple crowns award. The first player to hit 1,000 strikes was Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle with 1,710 strikeouts in his lifetime.
Ty Cobb (1905-1928) is famed as the greatest hitter in baseball history. Cy Young (1890-1911) was famed for having won more games than any other pitcher in major league history with 511 wins. Ken Griffey, Jr. (1989 - present) is famed to be the best all-around player in major league baseball today. And there are more great players to be added to this list.
